Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 14, 2026

Your privacy is important to us. The Sword (“App”) is owned and operated by Trevor Osswald (“we,” “our,” “us”). This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information when you use our iOS application.

1. Information We Collect

a) Information You Provide We only receive information you actively send us. If you submit a bug report, we receive the text of your report via your device's mail app. We do not collect this information automatically.

b) Information Stored on Your Device The App stores your optional profile name, reading preferences (font size, Bible version, appearance mode), and playback settings (AI voice, speed, repeat mode) locally using iOS UserDefaults. An optional profile photo is stored in the App's protected local storage. Complimentary-access dates and referral progress are stored locally in iOS Keychain and UserDefaults. During an unfinished referral round, selected contacts' display names are stored only in that protected local state so completed rows survive relaunch; those names are cleared when the round completes. To prevent a recipient from counting more than once, the App also stores keyed, non-readable fingerprints of the selected contact and phone number on your device. Raw phone numbers and message contents are not stored.

2. AI Narration & ElevenLabs

When you request AI narration, the selected Bible passage is sent — by way of our text-to-speech proxy server — to ElevenLabs (elevenlabs.io) to generate audio. We do not store or retain the content of these requests. ElevenLabs' handling of this data is governed by their Privacy Policy at elevenlabs.io/privacy.

3. Aggregate Referral Analytics

When you use the referral feature, the App sends limited product-interaction events to our Cloudflare Worker so we can understand whether the feature is useful. These events contain the referral step (such as offer viewed, Contacts opened, message sent, or reward granted), app version, and a coarse conversion context. They do not contain a name, phone number, contact fingerprint, message content, account identifier, advertising identifier, or persistent device identifier. We use this unlinked information only in aggregate for analytics and do not use it for tracking or advertising.

4. Subscription & Payments

All subscription purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive, store, or have access to your payment information. Apple's Privacy Policy (apple.com/legal/privacy) governs the data collected during the purchase process. The App uses StoreKit to verify subscription status on your device.

5. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect: • Your name, email address, contact names, or phone numbers • Message contents or recipient fingerprints • Location or GPS data • Device identifiers or advertising IDs • Reading history, listening history, search history, or crash reports • Data through third-party analytics SDKs

6. Data Security

Preferences, access dates, referral progress, temporary recipient display names, and recipient fingerprints remain on your device and are protected by its built-in security features (e.g., passcode, Face ID, device encryption). Aggregate referral events sent to our Worker are not linked to an account or persistent device identifier. We do not have the ability to access or recover information stored locally on your device.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address below and we will take steps to delete such information.

8. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

• ElevenLabs — AI text-to-speech (elevenlabs.io/privacy) • Cloudflare — text-to-speech proxy and aggregate referral-event processing (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy) • Apple App Store — Subscription management (apple.com/legal/privacy) • Apple Messages — user-approved invitation sending (apple.com/legal/privacy)

9. Our Website

Our website (thesword.app) does not use cookies or advertising trackers, and does not collect email addresses or any other personal information. To understand how the site is used — for example, how many visitors try the interactive demo — we use Vercel Analytics, a privacy-preserving measurement service that does not use cookies, does not create visitor profiles, and does not collect personal or device identifiers (vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy). Aggregate counts are all we ever see.

10. Your Rights

Because referral analytics are aggregate and are not linked to an account or persistent device identifier, we cannot associate those events with you. If you have submitted a bug report via email, you may request deletion by contacting us directly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
